Well, I just got back from the grocery store, and I'm a little frustrated. You see, I was put in charge of doing the food for a big youth activity at the church on Saturday night. I have to prepare a 3 course meal for the youth, and they plan on 80-100 people attending. It really isn't too stressful for me, as this is my fourth year doing it, and so I feel like I have it down pat by now. The problems come up when things happen that are beyond your control, and that throws a wrench in it sometimes, like what just happened now. We are serving sliced roast beef for the main dish, and I had gone in to this particular grocery store a few days ago telling them I would need four 8-9 lb rump roasts for this dinner on Saturday. I asked if I would need to order ahead of time and the butcher said "no, we always have plenty of this stuff in the back". I said "Are you sure you don't need me to pre-order?" And he again confirmed that it would be fine, and I would be fine to come in on Thursday and just buy it. Well, I went in today, an hour before I was supposed to have all my helpers come over to my house to pick up all the food to help cook it. Guess what. They only had two little small 3 lb roasts left!!! UGH!! The one butcher I talked to wasn't there, but the other butcher that was there a few days ago and heard my conversation said "oh, I'm so sorry. I guess he forgot to order any more." She felt bad, but that didn't help the fact that I still needed these roasts at my house in an hour!!! I tried to remain nice and still relay the fact that I was upset over the situation. I always worry about being too mean to people, so I tried to explain how frustrated I was. The other lady who was there offered to drive to the other grocery store, that was 15 minutes away, and pick some up for me. I was so thankful she would do that, and so now I'm here at home, waiting for her to get back to the store so I can go pick it up. I'm thankful that the situation turned out ok, but it's always frustrating when things happen that are beyond your control. It just goes to show you that you can plan and prepare as much as you want, but after that you just have to let it go and roll with it!!! (hopefully I get back home before anyone shows up to get their food!!)

****Update: I went back to the store at 12:45 since she said she'd be back by then and she wasn't there yet. I waited till about 1:15 and she finally came back. They still had to cut it up into the four big roasts, so I then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes for them to be done. UGH!! I was so worried all these people would be at my house waiting for their food. I had left a note on the door saying I'd be "right" back, but it took so much longer than I thought, I was hoping no one was standing on my porch saying "Yea, right, like she's coming "right" back!!" I felt bad. I then raced home and luckily there was no one there waiting, hopefully I didn't miss anyone. Then 2 minutes after I get home, there was a knock at my door, and someone came to pick up their food. I had just made it home in time. Also, Kyle had fallen asleep in his carseat on the way home, and I'm never able to transfer him to his bed without him waking up, but he did today!! Yea!! I was just thinking how Heavenly Father really does give us little situations to try us and test us, but then he does help us out and it always turns out fine in the end. I know it was a silly thing, but I know Heavenly Father was looking out for me, and allowing it to all turn out!

Good job remaining calm. I have a hard time with that. How nice of you to do this big dinner for the youth, sounds like a lot of work!
Yeah for it all working out and yeah for the little extra help!
How frustrating! I'm glad everything worked out in the end. And, yeah for Kyle staying asleep in the car. I know how frustrating it is when they take their 10 minute naps!
isn't it amazing how much you can see Heavenly Fathers hand in your life when you are serving him the best you can...i love this post!!!
I don't handle things like that very well. Good for you for staying calm.
Oh I'm so glad it all worked out. You were being watched over today for sure!
Grace under pressure--what a great quality you posess. I've written a few 'harsh' letters when things like this happen.
Thanks Lori for sharing such a great story. As I was just starting to read it I shook and open a bottle of metallic pink nail polish and splatter went everywhere. I waited on cleaning it up and glad I did because, right now, I needed to read the happy ending.
