Well, today Kyle got his cast off. It's been a month, and we were so excited to get this thing off!! (Baths haven't been very fun.) The doctor asked if he thought he'd be ok with the saw, and I said yes, he's a pretty good sport about stuff like that. It was loud, but Kyle was so good.
I think he was wondering what we were doing to him.......
The doctor kept sawing away (I think I was more nervous than Kyle was :)
I was especially nervous to see what his leg would look like after being in that thing so long, but it wasn't too bad.
And here he is with his trophy. The nurse asked if I wanted to keep the cast. I looked at her funny and said "no way, why would I want to do that. Pee yew!!" Then I asked her if people really took them home. She said they do all the time. People will tape them back up and show everyone at home, and sometimes take them to school for show-and-tell. I decided to go ahead and take it home because maybe the kids would get a kick out of seeing it. (which they did) Well, Kyle is doing good, except that he can't walk again. He doesn't want to put any weight on it, and the doctor said it could take up to a week for him to get walking on it good again. (and up to 2 months for him to walk normal again.) He came home and was all mad and frustrated he couldn't walk on it, so he got his cast and tried to put it back on his leg. It was so funny. I tried to explain to him that it wouldn't work, and he'd just have to get used to walking on his leg again. (I don't think he got it.) But the good news is the doctor did an x-ray, and it's healing perfectly. Lot's of new bone growth. So we're happy about that!!!

Yay Kyle! So glad that you got your cast off, what a brave boy. Thanks for shopping with us today Lori, I had fun. I'm even more excited for Halloween now than I was before.
Oh, happy day!! I heard getting it off is pretty scary! He is a tough boy!
I'm glad it all went well. I'm still dreading the day when one of my kids breaks a bone. So sad that he couldn't walk afterwards and tried to put the cast back on.
Way to go mom! Why is always worse for us? Glad he is doing good and was a good sport about getting it off. He'll be running around before you know it! :)

Wow! I hadn't thought about HOW you get a cast off (I've never broken a bone)... that IS scary! Aren't our bodies miraculous that we can heal ourselves from things like BROKEN BONES?!
Yeah for getting it off!
Yeah Kyle! I bet you were waiting for this day for a long time! He is a brave little boy. I can't imagine how my boys would do with that.
